Home Education Programme

Our Home Education Sessions are open to all Home Educating families. Each session will be linked to the curriculum on topics about Owls, Raptors or Native Wildlife and the environment.

Small group sizes and the same staff running each session will ensure a relaxed atmosphere, with sessions tailored to the individuals in each group.

April and May 2024

RAPTOR FACTORS Course on Tuesdays

KS1/2 in the morning (10-12), KS2/3 in the afternoon (1-3)

16th Apr - Habitats
30th Apr - Food Chains and pellets
14th May - Senses and Adaptations
21st May - Rescue

All participants will receive a certificate at the end of the course.



Other Sessions (mixed ability)

Wed 24th Apr, 10am-12pm - Careers
A session to find out some top tips on how to get a job working with animals

Wed 8th May - 10-12 and 1-3 - Raptor Rescue
Find out what to do if you find injured wildlife

Fri 17th May, 10-12 and 1-3 - Enrichment and Animal Behaviour
Get creative (and messy!) making some fun puzzle feeders for our birds and animals, then have the chance to make some behavioural observations.



Course £50 per participant. Sibling discount cost of £35 when accompanied by a paying adult.
Other sessions £15, Sibling discount cost of £10 when accompanied by a paying adult.

Conditions of booking

  • Sessions are limited to a maximum of 8 participants. Sessions require a minimum of 4 participants to take place. In the event of bookings not meeting this, we reserve the right to refund your booking fee, or transfer you to an alternative date/ time.

  • All sessions will take place at SOS2, although weather depending we may go for walks around the Centre. Participants for the morning sessions should come straight to SOS2, where we can issue you wristbands. Participants for afternoon sessions should enter Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at the main entrance, where you will receive a wristband. Please aim to arrive at the Sanctuary 15 minutes before the start of the session to allow time for you to make your way to SOS2.

  • The programme of topics to be covered and length of sessions is outlined above.

  • At the start of each session, we will introduce the topic and discuss some aims and objectives for the session. The sessions will be mostly child led, with a variety of learning activities used to ensure accessibility to all.

  • All activities will be led by experienced and qualified staff (including Level 2 Understanding Autism). All staff are Enhanced DBS checked and First Aid trained. Barring unforeseen circumstances (ie staff illness), the sessions will be led by the same staff members.

  • Payment is required in advance to confirm your space. Refunds will only be given for missed sessions if you inform us before the session start time.

  • In the event of us having to cancel a session, we will arrange proportionate refunds.

  • The price per session includes one free adult per family and admission to Suffolk Owl Sanctuary for the rest of the day. If you wish to bring an additional adult, or any non-participatory siblings over the age of 4, please pay admission for them when you arrive. Sibling discount is only applicable with a full paying participant.

  • Parents/Guardians are welcome to stay during the sessions, but should not disrupt the session. They may be asked to assist with some activities.

  • All children must remain with a responsible adult at all times. Parents/ Guardians are responsible for making sure that they supervise ALL their children whilst visiting the Sanctuary, and that children behave in an appropriate manner towards staff, volunteers, visitors and animals/ birds.

  • All Day programmes - there will be a half hour break for lunch. Participants should bring food with them as we do not have on site catering. We can refill water bottles if required. If there are any major food intolerances or allergies (nuts, gluten etc) we will contact all participants a couple of days before the course to ask them to avoid bringing certain items.

  • If you require additional information, such as images of key areas, staff, a brief summary of the specific activities planned etc to support a participant with autism, please outline your requirements on your booking form.

  • Some activities are planned to involve group work. Please contact Susan on education@owlhelp.org.uk or 07879 547 067 if you know you will miss a session so that alternative activities for the group can be arranged.

For the safety of all visitors, we respectfully ask that if anyone in your household has, or has come into contact with, anyone who has symptoms or has tested positive for Covid 19 within the 10 days prior to each session, that you do not attend. Our staff may wear face masks for the duration of each session, and all surfaces and materials will be wiped down between sessions.
